24/7 Golf is the official Australian distributor for FlightScope Mevo and Mevo+, ES Pro Sim, and SkyTrak launch monitors.

Golf launch monitors are used to track club and ball data for each shot hit. Each model of launch monitor tracks or measures different parameters. With the data provided, golfers can identify strengths and weaknesses of their game, and focus on practicing specific areas that will result in playing better golf. Certain launch monitors such as the FlightScope Mevo+ and SkyTrak can be turned into professional simulators with the addition of compatible software and hardware, allowing users to play rounds of golf at courses around the world right from their home.

We recommend getting a dozen new golf balls for your indoor golf simulation play. New balls mean your hitting screen won’t get dirty, marked or ripped from used golf balls (clubs should also be cleaned for the same reasons). If using Mevo+, you should place a metallic sticker on each for indoor use only. This helps read the spin and spin axis of the ball. The metallic sticker should always face the target. In basic terms, for the radar based systems the metal dot creates a gap radio waves that allows the launch monitor to obtain more accurate spin data. Accurate spin data is important as it directly impacts carry distance. Some stickers come with your launch monitor and packs of 500 can be purchased from 24/7 Golf.

This depends on how you want to set it up and if you’ll be playing with friends who are right-handed. The Mevo+ sits on the ground behind the ball, so it is possible to set the Mevo+ up in a fixed position for both left and right-handed golfers depending on the width of your area. The SkyTrak sits next to the ball, so it needs to be moved from side-to-side to accommodate left and right-handed golfers.

Comparing launch monitors

Both SkyTrak and Mevo+ are equally accurate devices which we’ve tested head to head against themselves and tour level devices such as the FlightScope X3 and Trackman. Putting it simply, both SkyTrak and FlightScope Mevo+ are excellent units. Our side-by-side comparisons have found the data of both units to be extremely close. Basically you would not select one over the other based on one being more accurate; we consider both units equal in terms of accuracy.

The main considerations when choosing between SkyTrak and FlightScope Mevo+ are the space you have, the material your area is constructed from, and whether you’ll be using the launch monitor indoors only, or both indoors and outdoors.

The advantage of SkyTrak is that it requires a relatively small space to set-up; you just need to be able to swing a driver! The disadvantages of SkyTrak include SkyTrak being an indoor only unit, the small lag between hitting a shot and the data appearing on screen, and additional subscriptions required to play rounds of golf.

The main advantages of FlightScope Mevo+ is that it can be used both indoors and outdoors off both mats and real grass, includes a variety of software and a simulation package free of charge as standard. The main disadvantage is that Mevo+ requires significantly more room to use indoors.

  1. Ongoing costs. SkyTrak requires a yearly fee to access extra features and to connect to simulator software whereas Mevo+ doesn’t.
  2. Mevo+ includes more as a base package than SkyTrak.
  3. Mevo+ can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Launch monitors can be split into two categories; photometric and doppler radar. Photometric launch monitors, such as the SkyTrak, use photographic based technology to track the ball for a short distance (1-2m) then calculates the rest of the shot using complicated but highly accurate algorithms. Photometric-based launch monitors are great for indoor set-ups with limited space.

Doppler radar launch monitors such as FlightScope Mevo+ use radar technology, similar to those used on aircraft, to track the ball for longer distances. Radar launch monitors are great for indoor and outdoor set-ups, but require a little more space to operate.

The Mevo offers eight performance data parameters compared to 16 on the Mevo+.

Additionally, the Mevo+ includes an iOS simulation software package. The iOS package includes a lifetime E6 Connect five course package including Aviara, Stone Canyon, Wade Hampton, Sanctuary and the Belfry as well as 17 practice ranges and games. It also has an internal camera for target alignment.

The Mevo does not give shot shape, but the Mevo+ does which is why it can be used for golf simulation play.

FlightScope Mevo+

FlightScope Mevo and Mevo+ come with a full 12-month Australian warranty.

The FlightScope Mevo+ includes three pieces of great value software:

  • FlightScope Golf App (FS Golf): This is your standard driving range software which displays all shot data, plots it on the range and includes dispersion circles. One awesome feature is the automated video clipping feature. Mevo+ connects directly to your phone’s camera, which you either place down the line behind the player, or parallel on the side, and automatically clips the video of your swing, then overlays the data of that swing on the screen. This gives both players and coaches the opportunity to review both the physical swing combined with the outcome of the swing in one simple and quick interface. Coaches can save these videos and forward to students, or, if Students own a Mevo+ themselves, can record the swings to submit to their coach online for review and coaching.
  • FlightScope Skills App (FS Skills): The is a skills test app. Users can choose from a variety of different pre-set skills tests, or create their own custom ones. The skills app has users on the driving range once more, but has them aiming at targets set by the software, and ranks each shot. At the end of each skills session the app will identify how well the golfer has performed, where they predominantly miss their shots etc, and gives them information to work on. It’s practicing with precise purpose.
  • TruGolf E6 Connect: Apart from being a launch monitor, the Mevo+ is also a highly accurate golf simulator. Included at no extra charge is an E6 Connect lifetime subscription with five free real-life golf courses that players can use on their iPhone or iPad. They can even plug their device into a TV or projector to play at home. This is currently available for iOS only running iOS13.3 or later.

The Mevo + captures 16 data parameters. It captures all ball flight information and some club data.
These include:

  • Carry distance
  • Club head speed
  • Ball speed
  • Smash factor
  • Spin rate
  • Angle of attack
  • Spin axis
  • Spin loft
  • Horizontal launch angle
  • Vertical launch angle
  • Lateral landing
  • Total distance
  • Roll distance
  • Apex height
  • Flight time
  • Shot shape

The higher priced units such as Flightscope X3 and Trackman 4 capture additional club parameters such as swing path, face angle, etc.

You could easily spend between $10,000 and $30,000 for a top of the line unit such as Trackman but for a fraction of the cost, you get an incredibly accurate indoor/outdoor portable simulator that captures the most important data points.

It requires a minimum of 5.1m of space to be totally accurate (2.4m from Mevo+ to ball, 2.4m from ball to screen/net, 0.3m behind screen to allow for screen to expand during impact).

Height and width of your area is directly related to your golf swing. A safe bet is usually 2.8m high and 3m wide, but the best way to check is to swing a golf driver.

The Mevo+ cannot be used in an environment with a large amount of exposed metal surfaces, such as a Colorbond shed.

You only need a metallic sticker for indoor use only.

We recommend getting a dozen new golf balls for your indoor golf simulation play and placing a metallic sticker on each. New balls mean your hitting screen won’t get dirty, marked or ripped from used golf balls (clubs should also be cleaned for the same reasons).

Mevo+ has its own internal battery source. The battery life is up to two hours on a full charge, and up to 1.5 hours in simulator play.

We recommend lining your walls with plasterboard or plywood. We don’t guarantee this will work but it should. Anything in front of the launch monitor should be lined and the wall behind the impact screen (excluding the roof).

SkyTrak

For the base package, none. To access extra driving range features, the Game Improvement Package is required, which is about $179 per year. You also require an active Game Improvement Pack to run any third party simulation software such as TGC2019.

SkyTrak comes with a full 12-month Australian warranty.

SkyTrak as standard includes the base driving range software which allows you to practice like you would at the range with the addition of all the main data points.

SkyTrak measures:

  • Ball speed
  • Launch angle
  • Back spin
  • Side spin
  • Side angle

With this data, the software is also able to accurately provide:

  • Carry/Total distance
  • Offline
  • Roll
  • Flight path
  • Club head speed
  • Angle of descent

The SkyTrak is indoor only and can be used in a relatively small space (around 2-3m of ball flight).

Height and width of your area is directly related to your golf swing. A safe bet is usually 2.8m high and 3m wide, but the best way to check is to swing a golf driver.

As long as you can swing a driver comfortably you are fine.

Yes, SkyTrak is portable. The system has an internal battery providing more than four hours of use when fully charged and wirelessly connects to your iPad. Technically, it can be used outdoors on a mat (not off grass) so long as you can avoid direct sunlight. We recommend indoor use only.

The Epson projector we offer (EH-TW5600) is a standard throw projector. This means it requires a longer “throw” distance from the projector to the screen to produce a large image.

Advantages of the Epson is:

  1. It is cheaper without sacrificing quality.
  2. It has “Quick Corner” which allows users to mount the projector in an offset position and digitally change the shape and size of the image using the projector controls.
  3. Replacement lamps are very affordable.

Disadvantages of the Epson:

  1. It requires a large throw distance (distance from projector to screen)
  2. It generally can only be set-up for either right-handed or left-handed golfers. If set-up for RH golfers for example, a left-hand golfer would be standing in the path of the image and cast a shadow on the screen.

The Optoma GT1080HDR is the premier 4K Ultra HD gaming projector on the market. This model is “short throw” meaning the projector can be mounted much closer to the screen, but still produce a large image.

Advantages of Optoma:

  1. It can be mounted directly above the golfer, out of the way of impact or swing, but still produce a full-size image.
  2. Because the projector is mounted effectively in front of the player, no shadow will be cast on the screen regardless of left-hand or right-hand players.

Disadvantages of Optoma:

  1. More expensive.
  2. The projector cannot be offset and the image size cannot be as easily manipulated. Essentially the projector must be mounted in a specific position to achieve a perfect screen size, rather than adjusted in the options.
  3. May not fill all screen sizes.

This depends on the device you are using (phone, PC or tablet). Normally, a 4:3 aspect ratio will be used. However, you will need to check with your device manufacturer.

No. Your phone or tablet only has one WiFi connection and it is used to connect to your launch monitor. You will need a HDMI cable with a converter depending on your device. There are many videos available on YouTube explaining this for different devices.
